Vriksh ke paas ek jharna bhi bahta hai, jo is sthal ki sundarta ko aur badhaata hai. Yeh jharna paryatak aur shraddhaluon ke liye ek khaas anubhav prastut karta hai, kyunki yahan aakar log khud ko shuddh karte hain aur phir Gufa mein pravesh karte hain. Kaha jaata hai ki Gaja Surya ne hazaaron saalon tak kathor tapasya ki aur Bhagwan Shiv se yeh vardaan prapt kiya ki uske naam par ek Shivling sthapit kiya jaayega. Yeh Shivling Gaja Surya dwara sthapit kiya gaya tha, aur usse vardaan ke roop mein yeh Shivling prapt hua. Yeh kahani is mandir ke mahatva ko aur badhati hai, kyunki isse Gaja Surya ki tapasya aur Bhagwan Shiv ki kripaa ka pratik maana jaata hai.
14vi sadi mein Raja Mansi ne is mandir mein pooja-archana ki thi, aur tab se yahaan bhakton ki aastha badhi. Adivasi samudaay ke log is mandir mein bahut shraddha rakhte hain aur unhone ise Shivgarhi arthaat Shiv ka ghar naam diya.
