Gautam Rishi ne krodhit hokar Ahilya ko shraap diya, “Tu apne pati ke saath chhal kar rahi hai, isliye main tujhe shraap deta hoon ki tu jeevan bhar patthar ki shila bankar rahegi.” Ahilya, jo apne pati ke prati nishthaavan thi, is shraap ko sunkar stabdh reh gayi. अहिल्या का श्राप और पत्थर की शिला
गौतम ऋषि ने क्रोधित होकर अहिल्या को श्राप दिया, “तू अपने पति के साथ छल कर रही है, इसलिए मैं तुझे श्राप देता हूं कि तू जीवन भर पत्थर की शिला बनकर रहेगी।” अहिल्या, जो अपने पति के प्रति निष्ठावान थीं, इस श्राप को सुनकर स्तब्ध रह गईं। वे समझ गईं कि इंद्र के छल के कारण यह सब हुआ है। उनकी आंखों से अश्रु बहने लगे, लेकिन ऋषि का श्राप तो अटल था।

गौतम ऋषि ने इंद्र की ओर देखते हुए कहा, “देवराज, तुमने यह सब एक स्त्री की योनि को पाने की लालसा में किया है। तुम्हारे जैसे देवता का यह आचरण अक्षम्य है। यदि तुम्हें योनि की इतनी ही लालसा है, तो मैं तुम्हें श्राप देता हूं कि तुम्हारे शरीर पर हजार योनियाँ उत्पन्न हो जाएंगी। अब तुम्हें किसी स्त्री की आवश्यकता नहीं है क्योंकि तुम स्वयं हजार योनियों के स्वामी हो।”

Outside the hut was his wife, Devi Ahilya, busy with her daily chores. Ahilya’s beauty was unparalleled. Her radiant aura and simple grace captivated Indra. A strong desire awakened in Indra’s heart—he wanted to possess Ahilya.
Indra’s Deception and His Plan
Indra, so deeply enamored by Ahilya’s beauty, lost his sense of righteousness. His desire became so overwhelming that he devised a plan to deceive her. Every day, before sunrise, Gautam Rishi would go to the river for his daily bath and return only after performing his rituals. Indra decided to take advantage of this routine. He used his divine powers to create an illusion of dawn, making it appear as though morning had arrived, so that Gautam Rishi would leave his hut early.
Gautam Rishi’s Deception and Ahilya’s Illusion
As soon as Gautam Rishi left the hut, Indra disguised himself as the sage and entered the hut. Ahilya, who was devoted to her husband, was initially surprised to see him. The disguised Indra, using his charm and sweet words, began to deceive Ahilya. Despite her initial suspicion, Ahilya was eventually swayed by Indra’s words and actions, mistaking him for her husband.
Gautam Rishi’s Return and His Wrath
When Gautam Rishi reached the river, he realized that it was not yet morning. Sensing something was amiss, he quickly returned to his hut. Upon his return, he saw another man in his guise, engaging in intimate acts with his wife. The sight of this filled Gautam Rishi with an intense rage. He instantly recognized that this was Indra’s deception.
Ahilya’s Curse and Her Transformation into Stone
In his fury, Gautam Rishi cursed Ahilya, saying, “You have committed a grave sin by being deceived. I curse you to turn into a stone and remain lifeless forever.” Ahilya, who had always been faithful to her husband, was devastated by the curse. She realized that Indra’s deception had led to this, but the curse was irreversible.
Indra’s Curse and the Emergence of a Thousand Vaginas
Turning to Indra, Gautam Rishi said, “Devaraj, you have committed this heinous act out of lust for a woman’s body. For a deity like you, this behavior is inexcusable. Since you desired a woman’s body so desperately, I curse you to bear a thousand vaginas on your body. Now, you shall no longer need the company of a woman, for you are now the master of a thousand vaginas.”
Indra, the king of the gods, was overwhelmed with shame and guilt. A thousand vaginas emerged on his body as a result of the curse. This curse was unbearable for Indra. He folded his hands and begged Gautam Rishi for forgiveness. Seeing Indra’s repentance, Gautam Rishi’s anger subsided.
